Playboy Extends Partnership With Zinio to Offer Digital International Newsstand
Editions of Legendary Men's Magazine Available Globally from One Online Location
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Zinio LLC, the leading digital publishing and distribution platform for magazines and books, announced today that it has extended an agreement with international multimedia entertainment company Playboy Enterprises, Inc. to build, host and maintain the "Playboy International Newsstand," a single repository containing all of Playboy's domestic and some of its international editions. Effective today, current and archived editions will be available at http://www.play/ boy.com/globaldigital.
Playboy has developed 24 editions that cater to the specific tastes of countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America. The goal of the Zinio/Playboy International Newsstand is to offer subscribers and single copy purchasers access to a wide number of these current and archived editions anytime, anywhere. Approximately 75 percent of the editions' content is provided in each country's respective primary language and marketed to the preferences of its residents.
"Our domestic and international issues have always offered readers the best in literature, fashion, humor, and pop culture. As consumers become increasingly accustomed to digital lifestyles and access their content via the Web, we have a great opportunity to showcase the true world of Playboy as seen by consumers around the globe," said Bob O'Donnell, managing director of Playboy International Publishing.
Already the provider of the Playboy's U.S. digital edition, Zinio has delivered over a million digital issues of the magazine and is responsible for a significant percentage of sales outside the U.S. With 20 percent of current international customers purchasing more than one Playboy product, Zinio's platform allows Playboy to easily and cost-effectively maximize sales opportunities globally.
In addition to the U.S. Playboy and the company's Special Editions, on November 5, 2007, Zinio will begin offering issues from the following countries and plans continue to expand this offering:
-- Argentina -- Mexico -- Estonia -- Romania -- France -- Spain -- Hungary -- Venezuela
"Part of our job is to innovate on behalf of our 750 magazine titles and 250 publisher clients. With the Web making geographic borders porous, international brands must continue to adapt to integrate their marketing and content accordingly," said Rich Maggiotto, Zinio's CEO. "The implementation of the Playboy International Newsstand is not only a boon for the Publisher's brand; it's a bellwether for all magazine titles to expand their audience reach worldwide."
