NEW YORK, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- NYC & Company, the official marketing and tourism organization for New York City, and the New York City Sports Commission are pleased to welcome back the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champions Week to the City. Beginning today and running through Friday, a weeklong celebration of NASCAR will be held across New York City and culminate with the official crowning of this year's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion.

"New York City is pleased to once again welcome NASCAR and the Champions Week," said George Fertitta, CEO, NYC & Company. "The week is quickly becoming a staple of the City and is another great example of the diverse range of things that our residents and visitors can see and do throughout the five boroughs."

The week officially kicked off this morning with the Aflac Pit Stop Tour, which showcases more than a dozen authentic NASCAR stock cars. Each Aflac Pit Stop location will have free photo opportunities, and street teams will be handing out official NASCAR partner giveaways. The stops will be open from 7am to 7pm all week long; more information and exact locations are available at nascar.com/championsweek.

The highlight of this year's celebration is once again the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Victory Lap. NASCAR's 10 best drivers from this past season will run a victory lap around Midtown Manhattan. The event, which will be televised live on ABC, begins outside Good Morning America's Times Square Studios and concludes at the Hard Rock Cafe at Broadway and 43rd Street.

Other events from the week include the Aflac Fan Fest, the NASCAR Street Tour and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Awards Ceremony at the Waldorf=Astoria, where this year's winning driver and team will be crowned.

The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champions Week has been coming to New York City for over 25 years. For more information on each event, including location listings, visit nascar.com/championsweek.
