Filmmaker Ken Burns to Speak at BHCC

BOSTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Documentarian and filmmaker Ken Burns will speak at Bunker Hill Community College on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. His presentation will take place in the A300 Auditorium on the Charlestown Campus located at 250 New Rutherford Avenue, Boston, MA 02129. The program will begin at 1pm and include a lecture and reception. This event is free and open to the public, however, reservations are encouraged. Master story teller Ken Burns has been making films for more than 30 years. His ascent to fame began with 1981's Academy Award nominated Brooklyn Bridge and was cemented over time with films like the Civil War, Jazz and Baseball. Burns has directed and produced a number of highly acclaimed historical documentaries. This fall his latest documentary, The War, aired on PBS to rave reviews. Six years in the making, this epic 14-hour film focuses on the stories of citizens from four American towns and covers their experiences during World War II.

"Ken Burns is a fitting example of the high standards that all of our speakers bring."

Bunker Hill Community College's Compelling Conversations Speaker Series will host journalist Mariane Pearl on February 1, 2008, and author Gish Jen on March 25, 2008. In the past, the series has featured, among others, Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss, civil rights activist Mary Frances Berry, best-selling author Barbara Ehrenreich, newscaster Ray Suarez and the former president of Ireland Mary Robinson.

Bunker Hill Community College is one of the largest community college in Massachusetts. The College enrolls more than 8,800 students on two campuses and at five satellite locations each semester. Some 1,700 students take classes online. BHCC is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth. Six in ten students are people of color and more than half of BHCC's students are women. The College also enrolls more than 600 international students who come from more than 95 countries and speak 75 different languages.
