Shine signals start of US expansion with hiring of first senior executive

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Shine U.S.A., the U.S. branch of Shine Ltd, one of the U.K.'s fastest growing production companies, named Carolyn G. Bernstein Executive Vice President of Scripted Programs.

Bernstein's hire kicks off Shine's expansion in the US market. The announcement was made today by Elisabeth Murdoch, Chairman and CEO of Shine Ltd.

Bernstein, who will be based in Los Angeles, was most recently Executive Vice President, Drama Development at The WB Network. At Shine, she will establish the company's scripted presence in the U.S. market, with a focus on exploiting Shine's extensive library of U.K. scripted series, recently bolstered by the company's acquisition of leading, award-winning and highly- respected U.K.-based production company Kudos. Shine's output in The U.K. now includes commercial hit series Spooks, Hustle, Life On Mars and Sugar Rush.

While at The WB, Ms. Bernstein was in charge of the network's one-hour development including series SUPERNATURAL, ONE TREE HILL and EVERWOOD. Ms. Bernstein was also integrally involved in the development of the critical and ratings successes SMALLVILLE, GILMORE GIRLS, and DAWSON'S CREEK, in addition to being the lead Current Programming executive on several of these series in their first seasons. As the head of The WB's Alternative Programming department from 1999-2001, Bernstein was also responsible for The WB's first non-fiction series hit, POPSTARS.

Elisabeth Murdoch said: "Carolyn has an impeccable track record and is one of the most creative and passionate executives in the industry. We look forward to working with her as Shine continues to bring concepts from abroad into the US market."

Bernstein said: "I am thrilled and excited to work with Shine, especially in helping them get their series formats to U.S. audiences. Elisabeth has created an incredibly dynamic and impressive media company and I can't wait to help her enjoy the same success in the U.S. that she and Shine have had in the U.K. Their recent acquisition of Kudos truly makes this a dream job for me as I have long admired that company's distinctive, commercial and high-quality original series."
