Maureen Decherd Remains in Critical but Stable Condition
Belo CEO Clarifies Details Related to Wife's Accident
DALLAS, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) today updated and clarified various press reports concerning an accident involving Maureen Decherd, wife of the Company's chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer, Robert W. Decherd.
Mrs. Decherd was on a walk on the morning of Saturday, October 13, when a motorist pulled away from a stop sign without looking ahead. Mrs. Decherd was one-third of the way across a marked crosswalk on the other side of the intersection. The vehicle struck Mrs. Decherd and she was pushed or propelled about 20-30 feet, hitting her head on a curb as she fell down.
Mr. Decherd said, "Maureen was transported quickly to Parkland Hospital's emergency room trauma unit and received immediate attention for her injuries. She has been blessed by the focused attention of some of the finest surgeons, neurologists, trauma personnel and intensive care nurses in the United States, if not the world. Our children and I deeply appreciate the thoughts and prayers extended to us by so many friends, colleagues and my fellow Belo employees across the country."
Mrs. Decherd underwent emergency surgery on Saturday and remains in critical but stable condition at Parkland Hospital's intensive care unit.
