ABC's Woodruff to Brave Woodward, Markey and Sattler at SBA's 19th Annual Roast on October 29

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ABC News journalist and best-selling author Bob Woodruff will be roasted on Monday, Oct. 29 by investigative reporting legend Bob Woodward, Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), and Lt. Gen. John Sattler, decorated director for strategic plans and policy, J-5, The Joint Staff, at the Spina Bifida Association's (SBA) 19th Annual Roast for Spina Bifida at the Omni Shoreham. These roasters -- along with a possible surprise panelist -- will tap into Woodruff's career to date, including his time as co-anchor for "World News Tonight."

"We're thrilled with this year's lineup, and appreciate the time they are spending to help show the importance of improving the quality of life for people with Spina Bifida, while educating women on how to prevent this birth defect," said Cindy Brownstein, SBA's chief executive officer.

Jeffrey Hunt, 25, son of Roast founders Judy Woodruff and Al Hunt, was born with Spina Bifida, the most common, permanently disabling birth defect in the United States affecting more than 70,000 men, women, adolescents and children.

Roast honoree Bob Woodruff was nearly killed by a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq. His diverse and award-winning, global reporting to date includes Operation Iraqi Freedom, the death of Pope John Paul II, North Korea and Iran, Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 Palestinian elections and many others. In February, Woodruff and his wife Lee published an account of their lives after the injury titled, "In an Instant: A Family's Journey of Love and Healing."

A silent auction will be held during the reception, along with the annual Porsche raffle. Advance tickets may be purchased through the SBA office at 800-621-3141 or 202-944-3285 or via e-mail: Roast@sbaa.org. For more details on sponsorships and the event, contact SBA's Julie Bostian at 800-621-3141, ext. 20 or at jbostian@sbaa.org.

Founded in 1973, the Spina Bifida Association (SBA) is the only national voluntary health agency working exclusively for people with Spina Bifida and their families through research, advocacy, education and service. Telephone: 202-944-3285 / 800-621-3141. Web site: http://www.sbaa.org/.
