12 Girls Band Thursday, October 18 -- 8 p.m.
A refreshing and innovative blend of East and West, pop and traditional -- has made China's 12 Girls Band an international sensation like no other. With their latest U.S. release, Shanghai, American audiences will have their best opportunity yet to discover these immensely talented and engaging young women. Since their debut performance in 2001, 12 Girls Band virtually became an overnight success, and is hailed by the Asian media as a perfect blend of grace, beauty, and musicianship. This fall, 12 Girls Band launches their first major U.S. tour, with over 30 major markets in the states.
Eartha Kitt 80th Birthday Celebration with the ASO Friday, October 19 -- 8 p.m. Saturday, October 20 -- 8 p.m.
Join the ASO for two nights of the seductive femme-fatale performer, Eartha Kitt, presented by Delta Air Lines. The definitive Catwoman on the original "Batman" television series, Kitt has been performing and purrrforming for decades and is still as sexy and sultry as she was when Orson Wells named her "the most exciting woman in the world." The Tony, Emmy and Grammy award nominee celebrates her 80th birthday this year with a red-hot siren show.
Queen Latifah Friday, November 2 -- 8 p.m.
As she embarks on a tour in honor of her latest highly anticipated release, Trav'lin' Light (in stores today), the ASO is proud to present Grammy award winning performer Queen Latifah at Symphony Hall. With only six shows set in the entire southeast, don't miss the chance to see the celebrated singer and actress perform a smoldering set of soul and jazz standards in the intimate venue.
Joanna Newsom with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Saturday, November 17 -- 8 p.m.
Joanna Newsom's 6-date orchestral tour is stopping in Atlanta -- a treat for anyone who has ever heard the music of the classically trained harpist, pianist, harpsichordist and singer-songwriter. As one of today's fastest growing young artists and indie-experimentalist favorite, Newsom combines her unique voice and harp, for a sound that blends Appalachian folk, modernism and African rhythms into an original style that has a spellbinding effect. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will join Newsom on stage for this special performance.
The Wizard of Oz Complete Soundtrack Performed Live by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Friday, November 23 -- 8 p.m. Saturday, November 24 -- 2 p.m.
This Thanksgiving weekend pull out your ruby red slippers, broom or cowardly lion costume and join the ASO for two showings of the original 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. Come dressed as your favorite Wizard of Oz character and get ready to sing and tap your heels as the ASO performs the full symphonic score live back-to-back nights along with the digitally re-mastered classic that changed American cinema.
Anuna: Celtic Origins Saturday, November 24 -- 8 p.m.
Bridging the gap between classical and popular music, Anuna has an extraordinary sound all its own. The music is pulsating, hair-raising, emotive, mystical and unusual -- part classical, part folk, part world, part Celtic. The group's performance spans over 1,000 years of music history while showcasing a unique and beautiful vocal sound. Anuna is touring 40 cities around the U.S. this fall. Their album has topped the World Music, UK and Borders charts.
