Documentary Filmmaker Ken Burns to Address National Press Club
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will give a luncheon speech on Wednesday, September 19, at the National Press Club in Washington.
Burns, 54, will give a speech entitled "No Ordinary Lives," regarding the American experience in World War II. His upcoming seven-part documentary, "The War," will debut on PBS on Sunday, September 23 at 8 p.m.
Burns graduated from Hampshire College with a B.A. in film studies in 1975 and formed his production company, Florentine Films, the following year. His first project, "Brooklyn Bridge," made its national premiere on PBS on May 24, 1982, the 99th anniversary of the bridge's opening. Over the past quarter century, he has had a successful and highly acclaimed career, chronicling pivotal episodes of American history and aspects of American culture, frequently in collaboration with his younger brother Ric and his wife Amy. He is the winner of three Emmys for his documentaries "The Civil War," "Baseball" and "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson."
