SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Always at the helm of excellence in Spanish-language content on DVD, Xenon Pictures has announced the August 7th release of La Duena, one of Latin America's most popular telenovelas (soap operas), starring Angelica Rivera ("Huracan") and Francisco Gatorno (Fresa y Chocolate, "Clase 406").

The double-disc Televisa Home Entertainment DVD contains more than 5 hours of content, and includes English subtitles, a photo gallery and extra bonus features. La Duena has a suggested retail price of $19.99 and will be available at major retail and online stores nationwide.

Originally televised in 1995, La Duena is the story of beautiful, wealthy Regina, who seems to have the perfect life until her fiance Mauricio (Eduardo Santamarina) abandons her on their wedding day for her capricious cousin Laura (Cynthia Klitbo). The once sweet Regina turns cold and bitter, leaving the city to live on her sprawling ranch, Los Cascabeles. Her neighbors soon grow to hate her, thanks to her sadistic foreman, Macario (Salvador Sanchez), who excuses his atrocities by falsely claiming to be following Regina's orders. The exception is Jose Maria (Francisco Gatorno), a handsome, decent young man who is taken with Regina's beauty and strong character. Resist as she might, Jose Maria's love gradually tears down the wall Regina has built around her heart.

La Duena was produced in Mexico, but was broadcast in many countries across the world including the US, Israel, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Greece, Romania, and Puerto Rico, among others.

Also to be released on DVD August 14th is La Parodia Vol. 2, from the hit comedy series that features "La Fea Mas Bella" star Angelica Vale -- Mexico's "Ugly Betty" -- at her comedic best, along with Arath De La Torre, Freddy and German Ortega, and Luis Ernesto Cano. Also on that day is the release of the 9th volume of Lo Mejor del Chapulin Colorado: Mis Antenitas Estan Detectando la Presencia del Enemigo, starring Chespirito as the most famous Latin American comedy super-hero of all time. Created by Chespirito in 1970, "El Chapulin Colorado" has been one of the longest-running TV series in Central and South America; the character's popularity is such that "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening based his Bumble Bee Man on El Chapulin after watching an episode in a motel room on the US-Mexico border.

The upcoming releases will join Rebelde Vol. 3, the recently released DVD of the final installment from the biggest teen telenovela of all time in both Latin America and the US. Rebelde follows a group of students at the Elite Way School as they start another year in this prestigious establishment where the children of Mexico's wealthy get a superior education and the kind of social contacts that assure a successful future.
