An Opportunity for Traditional TV Broadcasters: New Technology Offers Customers Tailored Contents

An Opportunity for Traditional TV Broadcasters: New Technology Offers Customers Tailored Contents

VIENNA, Austria, August 29/PRNewswire/ --

- Practical Testing in Cooperation With ORF and TW1 Successfully Completed Just in Time for the IFA

Test operations performed in cooperation with ORF and TW1 proved it: the new EDIBS (embedded digital broadcast services) technology is the first solution that enables television broadcasting executives to satisfy the individual expectations of their viewers while also rewarding them for their loyalty to the broadcaster. Moreover, the new system gives advertisers the option to individually communicate their messages to viewers. EDIBS was developed over the past four years by F5, an emerging Austrian company, with the support of ESA, the European Space Agency.

This new technology emulates airline mile reward programs, albeit with complex technological efforts backing it up. Simply put, data is embedded in the digital TV program and subsequently directly processed and interpreted by the receiving device. No special appliances are required, as EDIBS is compliant to many of the standard DVB set-top-boxes already on the market.

The patented technology does not only provide a smart TV audience loyalty tool, but also offers commercial time marketers a new opportunity for behavioral targeting. Direct customer contacts and the personal delivery of relevant advertising information are no longer Internet exclusives: now traditional television can also reap the benefits of such interactions. Not only does this yield huge advantages for advertisers and the TV stations, it also benefits the viewers, who are rewarded for their opt-in by the broadcasters and their advertising partners.

The three-month pilot phase was successful

EDIBS was successfully tested in ORF's program segment TW1 in the past 3 months. The selected test households were impressed with the new options television can now offer. They felt more personally involved in the program activities. As a result, television viewing -in a time when ever more complex distribution channels are becoming the norm - is evolving into a much more personal medium than it has ever been.

F5 will now pursue the international marketing of EDIBS in partnership with other interested parties.
