Italian Film Festival of Marin Announces 31st Season Program Featuring Six Outstanding Dramas and Fresh New Comedies
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lido Cantarutti, director of the Italian Film Festival of Marin County, announced today the films for the six-week fall festival. The program features recent films exploring the dramatic and comedic range of Italy's filmmakers. Cantarutti said, "We're excited to once again feature an excellent film by one of Italy's most acclaimed directors, Pupi Avati. His films are always a hit with our audience, and this year's film, The Second Wedding Night, is a sure-to-please complex but tender love story set in Puglia after the end of World War II."
"The comedy highlights of this year's roster include Matchmakers, a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the workings of a matchmaking agency. There is anything but harmony at the 'No Longer Alone' agency! The second comedy, Before You Know It, is a topsy-turvy journey of a musical trio who, upon learning of a Mafia robbery shenanigan, get the idea that will turn them into unlikely robbers."
The films selected for the festival are: September 29 The Second Wedding Night (La seconda notte di nozze), drama, 2005, directed by Pupi Avati October 6 Matchmakers (Agente matrimoniale), comedy, 2006, directed by Christian Bisceglia October 13 Before You Know It (Basta un niente), 2006, comedy, directed by Ivan Polidoro October 27 One Out of Two (Uno su due), 2006, drama, directed by Eugenio Cappuccio November 3 Come into the Light (Alla luce del sole), 2005, drama, directed by Roberto Faenza November 10, Never Again as Before (Mai + come prima), 2005, drama, directed by Giacomo Campiotti
The films show at 5:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. each evening in the Marin Center Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, CA. Single tickets are $12 each. A series ticket for all six films is $66. For information and to order tickets, contact the Marin Center Box Office at (415) 499-6800, or visit the Festival's web site at < http://www.italianfilm.com/ >.
This is the thirty-first year the Italian Film Festival has been produced by Lido Cantarutti. The Festival displays modern and classic Italian films in a festive atmosphere. A Marin County newspaper describes the Festival as "joining an Italian family for a night."
Lido Cantarutti has been honored by various organizations on numerous occasions, including by the Italian government in 2001 with the conferral of knighthood and the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale nell'Ordine Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. In 2007, he made his acting debut in two programs for The History Channel. In a program on Galileo, he portrayed Pope Urban VIII, and in a second program he appeared as the racing car giant Enzo Ferrari.
