XM Real-Time NavTraffic Service Now Available in 79 Markets

XM NavTraffic Now Covers Most Major and Secondary U.S. Markets

WASHINGTON, July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio service, today announced that its real-time satellite information service for GPS navigation will add 29 new markets, providing XM NavTraffic subscribers in the U.S. access to real-time traffic data in a total of 79 major and secondary North American markets, beginning July 31. In addition, four current markets will also benefit from increased traffic data coverage within their metro areas.

The 29 new XM NavTraffic markets include: Albany, NY; Albuquerque, NM; Allentown, PA; Birmingham, AL; Colorado Springs, CO; Dayton, OH; Grand Rapids, MI; Greensboro, NC; Greenville, SC; Harrisburg, PA; Lancaster-York, PA; Lincoln, NE; Little Rock, AR; Louisville, KY; Mobile, AL; Naples, FL; New Orleans, LA; Oklahoma City, OK; Omaha, NE; Portsmouth, NH; Raleigh, NC; Richmond, VA; Rochester, NY; Spokane, WA; Syracuse, NY; Toledo, OH; Tucson, AZ; Tulsa, OK; and Wilkes Barre, PA. Drivers in these cities will be able to learn about traffic incidents such as accidents, road closures or construction as they occur in real-time.

In addition, Houston, TX; Sacramento, CA; San Francisco, CA; and St. Louis, MO, now have expanded incident and traffic flow coverage across each metro area.

XM NavTraffic feeds data on incidents directly to the vehicle's GPS navigation system via XM's satellite pipeline, alerting the driver to blockages directly on the navigation screen. He or she can then route around a jam before getting caught in traffic. XM NavTraffic also provides information on traffic flow where available. This allows users to view a color-coded overlay that indicates the average speed of travel along the driver's planned route. Traffic data is aggregated by NAVTEQ Traffic from data sources that include police and emergency services, commercial traffic data providers, road sensors, traffic cameras, eyewitness reports, and real- time aircraft surveillance reports.

"Thousands of drivers have been relying on XM NavTraffic to route around traffic, reducing the time they spend behind the wheel. We're pleased to expand this convenient service to an additional 29 new markets," said Roderick MacKenzie, XM's VP of Advanced Applications and Services.

The XM NavTraffic service is available as a factory-installed feature on new, 2008 models from Acura (MDX, RDX, RL, TL), Cadillac (CTS), Infiniti (G35, G37, QX56), Lexus (LS, LX), and Nissan (Altima, Armada, Pathfinder), as well as through a number of aftermarket and handheld units from Alpine, Garmin, Kenwood and Pioneer Electronics. XM NavTraffic is expected to be available in 200,000 vehicles by the end of the 2008 calendar year.

In addition to the 29 new markets available July 31, XM NavTraffic subscribers in the U.S. can also view traffic data in the following metro areas where service is already available: Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Buffalo - Niagara Falls, NY; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Dallas - Ft.
