NYC & Company and WNBC's Perri Peltz Find Southern Charm in New York City

-Southern Culture and Cuisine Featured on NYC Visit News Segment-

NEW YORK, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, July 27, NYC & Company's Fred Dixon and News 4 You anchor Perri Peltz tracked down some classic Southern traditions right in the heart of New York City. NYC & Company-the city's marketing and tourism organization-had several suggestions on where to find the best Southern food, clothing and music in the five boroughs.

"New York City is known for being diverse, with an eclectic mix of people from around the world," said Dixon. "With so many ethnicities and nationalities, the Southern culture can get overlooked, but the truth is food, traditions and music from across the South can be found on almost any block."

Last week, NYC Visit featured two delectable Southern-themed restaurants- Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Duke's NYC-along with cultural attractions, Rockin' the River Cruises and Billy Martin's USA. These destinations highlight the variety of Southern traditions available to New Yorkers and visitors.

"This segment really allowed our viewers to get an idea of the many Southern attractions available to them in New York City," said host Perri Peltz. "Visitors can familiarize themselves with Southern customs, including, food, music and even traditional clothing. The array of things to see and do throughout the boroughs is outstanding, and it really helps inform and educate."

With locations in the Gramercy Park and Murray Hill neighborhoods, Duke's NYC serves traditional Southern comfort food. With the baseball season in full swing and football right around the corner, Duke's also has multiple plasma screens so patrons can watch several games with friends and families.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened its doors in Harlem in December 2004. Known for its delicious Bar-B-Que, Dinosaur also has live music performances from Southern-influenced artists like Karlus Trapp and Blue River.

The Rockin' the River Cruises offer passengers a scenic boat ride along the Hudson River with toe-tapping Southern music. Take in the gorgeous New York City skyline while enjoying the sounds of Southern rockers like the Old 97s, Roomful of Blues and the John Popper Project-led by former Blues Traveler frontman John Popper.

For 27 years, Billy Martin's USA has specialized in authentic clothing from the South and West, including Cowboy boots, belt buckles and home furnishings. Billy Martin's recently opened a New York City store located on the Upper East Side.
