Launched today, CBS4's weather team, Chief Meteorologist David Bernard, Hurricane Expert Bryan Norcross, meteorologists Craig Setzer and Jeff Berardelli, morning weather anchor Lissette Gonzalez and weekend meteorologist Erin Coakley, will now be able to incorporate live, local weather information from 100 WeatherBug Tracking Stations, located primarily atop schools in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area, into their daily weather coverage. Additionally, CBS4 will be able to tap into the national network of WeatherBug Tracking Stations for live weather conditions and severe weather coverage from around the nation.
WeatherBug maintains the largest weather network in the world. It combines live weather sensors and cameras located primarily atop schools, with publicly available weather data from around the world, to deliver weather information with a degree of accuracy, precision and timeliness unmatched in the industry. The live, local weather conditions are delivered to millions of consumers via the Internet and mobile devices, more than 100 state and local government agencies including the National Weather Service, and to schools, businesses and 80 broadcast television stations throughout the country.
"We're excited about this dynamic new relationship with WeatherBug," commented Tom Doerr, CBS4 Vice President/Station Manager. "CBS4 is known as South Florida's Weather Station, and this partnership will help us extend that brand while giving us access to WeatherBug's state-of-the-art resources and technology."
With access to the WeatherBug Tracking Stations, CBS4 will be able to report on live weather conditions at area schools and downtown locations, provide severe weather alerts and track changes in weather conditions such as heat index and wind speed.
For instance, CBS4 will also be able to feature stations from the local area such as Dolphin Stadium, the Miami Museum of Science, and the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, during their daily broadcast. As a result, local communities across the viewing area will become an integral part of the CBS4 news program. In comparison, other local newscasts primarily rely on 16 weather stations located at airports and government facilities in the South Florida area. CBS4 will also offer viewers WeatherBug reports via its Web site at http://www.cbs4.com/ .
"WeatherBug welcomes CBS4 to our broadcast family," said Michael Rosen, SVP and GM of the WeatherBug Consumer Division, WeatherBug. "Together our organizations are committed to increased reliability in weather forecasts for the entire CBS4 viewing area so local families can plan their day with confidence and stay safe during severe weather. As the only station in the Miami market to have access to WeatherBug's proprietary network, CBS4 has established a clear differentiation in weather reporting and forecasting in an area known for severe weather that can happen quickly and without much warning."
Earlier this year, WeatherBug also announced that it is working with the City of Miami Beach to equip lifeguards and park and recreation staff with a location-based wireless solution, WeatherBug Protect, which sends alerts when severe weather conditions threaten public safety. Additionally, schools throughout Broward County use WeatherBug Protect to keep students, staff and athletic teams safe from lighting strikes and severe weather events. More than 55 WeatherBug Tracking Stations have been installed in Broward County to date.
