U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for June 2

U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for June 2

WASHINGTON, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

SATURDAY, JUNE 2: A CELEBRATED BEATLES ALBUM

Profile America -- Saturday, June 2nd. Forty years ago today, one of the most celebrated record albums was released in the U.S. "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," by the Beatles. The album was an immediate popular hit and critics noted its innovative structure, recording techniques and artwork. When the album was released in 1967, the U.S. was a notably different nation. For one thing, the population that year hit the 200 million mark; now, it's over 301 million. Then, barely over half of adults had at least a high school diploma. That figure is now more than 85 percent. When Sergeant Pepper was released, America's median age was just under 30 -- that figure is now 36.
