Germany's participant in the Eurovision Song Contest is optimistically heading to the Finale on May 12 in Helsinki. "I know that I'm going against the general grain with swing music. But that's exactly what got me so excited about the competition. Last year, Lordi also came from an outsider position and did well!"

Roger Cicero's creative roots lie in Romania, where his grandfather was a priest in a Romanian Orthodox church and wrote poems on the side. As the son of the legendary Jazz musician Eugen Cicero, Roger learned to play the piano and guitar as a child. He studied to sing Jazz in Hilversum (and speaks Dutch fluently since then). "Swing is an international love affair. It is a type of music that can affect everyone's emotions. We don't need any pyrotechnics, flashy outfits or other dramatic effects. We focus on our music and my voice and simply give it all we've got. The audience will quickly notice that we're no plastic band! We are hot like lava!"

With this attitude, Roger Cicero (36) has enjoyed an incredible career in Germany. His debut album "Männersachen" (Guy Things) was the highest-selling national album release in Germany in 2006/2007 with 350,000 CDs. He received gold and platinum album awards and the prestigious "Echo" music prize for "best national pop artist." What pleases him most, however, is the many sold-out concerts he has held in Germany in the meantime. Further concerts in Switzerland, Austria and Holland - where the album will soon be released - are in the works. "I used to sing in small jazz clubs. That was also great. But when all of a sudden 6000 people sing with you, you get goose bumps!"

Roger Cicero lives in Hamburg. His hobbies are billiards, chess, cooking and yoga. And music.
