Pianist, Songwriter & Composer Joe Rozum to Play the Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University in Malibu on Sat. May 19 at 8pm

Headlining Show Celebrates the Release of Rozum's New CD Along The Coast, a Lush Fusion of Smooth Jazz & Pop

LOS ANGELES, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California-based pianist, composer and songwriter Joe Rozum returns to the Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University for a headlining 8PM concert on Saturday, May 19. Set on Pepperdine's stunning ocean-view campus on PCH in Malibu, the elegant 450- seat theatre is the perfect venue for Rozum to celebrate the release of this new CD Along The Coast, which will be available for sale at the event.

Known for his seamless fusion of smooth jazz and pop -- with inflections of "cool blues & classical" -- Joe's artistry shines on the new album, his third. The disc features fifteen original compositions, all of which will have their major stage debut at Smothers on the 19th. Destined to be a favorite on smooth jazz FM dial destination 94.7 FM "The Wave," Along The Coast's highlights include five solo piano tracks, among them Joe's personal favorites "Footprints On My Heart," "She's As Pretty As A Picture" and "The Miracle." The title track is a bluesy instrumental featuring the full band, and "Dinner By Candlelight" is an enticing R&B stand-out.

Along The Coast follows up Rozum's 2005 album Dusk On A Summer Night, with highlights including the stirring instrumentals "La Danse Des Dauphins" and "Fields Of Sage." It also features "If Only," with vocals from Neeyah Lynn Rose, who will be onstage at Pepperdine on the 19th singing this and other Rozum favorites including "Never Bottle Up The Blue" from his self-titled 2004 debut CD.

A graduate of Boston's renowned Berklee College of Music, Rozum has composed music in genres including pop, jazz, blues, R&B, country and gospel. Credits for film-related work include the short film Have A Periwinkle Day, an award-winner at the New York International Film Festival, and the recent, award-winning digitally animated film The Baseball Card Shop. Rozum is also a veteran session player, and frequently plays out and about in Southern California at special events, awards shows, church programs and clubs as an accompanist and as a soloist.

At Pepperdine, Rozum will play a nine-foot concert grand piano. His eight stellar accompanists are: Charles Meeks (bass) and Grant Geissman (guitar), both of whom played for years with Chuck Mangione; Tom Walsh, drummer for Randy Quaid's band; saxophonist/flutist Robert Kyle (Linda Hopkins); violinist Erika Wolzak; and percussionist Gary McLaughlin (Buddy Miles, Jose Feliciano). Neeyah Lynn Rose will be spotlighted on all compositions featuring lead vocals.

Rozum's last performance at Pepperdine was in 2004 to launch his first CD, Joe Rozum, and was a near sell-out. Tickets for his May 19 return engagement at Smothers Theatre are $25, and are available through Ticketmaster and the Pepperdine Box Office, 310.506.4522.
