Garth Fagan Dance Announces Its New York City Season

- The Company will Collaborate with Jazz Greats Wynton Marsalis and Billy Bang -

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Garth Fagan Dance, Rochester's cultural ambassador to the world, today announced details around its New York City season later this year. From Nov. 9 - 13, Garth Fagan Dance will kick- off its 35th anniversary year by performing three programs at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The performances will be enriched with live music from jazz greats, Wynton Marsalis and Billy Bang.

The Nov. 9 Opening Night will feature a one-night-only performance of Griot New York, with live music from the legendary Wynton Marsalis and his Septet. This will be the first time that Griot New York will be performed in its entirety for the New York City audience since its debut in 1991 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

A full evening work, Griot New York pulls together the work of three visionaries - the concept and choreography of Tony Award-winning Garth Fagan, music composed and arranged by Wynton Marsalis, and set design by sculptor Martin Puryear. Griot New York explores contemporary urban life, anguish and exaltation, and triumph over adversity.

A VIP reception at Gabriel's Bar & Restaurant (11 West 60th Street) will celebrate the Opening Night performance. Ticket holders will enjoy premium seating for Griot New York and access to the reception where Mr. Fagan and his dancers will attend. Tickets cost $250 and can be purchased directly through Garth Fagan Dance by calling 585-454-3260.

From Nov. 10 - 13, the Company will perform a variety of established and recognized pieces and will premiere a new piece, featuring live music from incomparable jazz violinist, Billy Bang and his band at each performance.

The new work will highlight the underlying interconnectedness of people's intellect, compassion, and desire to survive. The piece will fuse together choreography, jazz, and various rhythms and cast them against an intricate Asian-inspired musical landscape, drawing on Mr. Bang's music and embracing the inherent bond of human beings.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office www.jalc.org or by calling CenterCharge at 212-721-6500. Ticket prices for Griot/Opening Night (without the reception) range $45 - $150. Tickets for the rest of the season range from $45 - $65.
