ABC Broadcast Center to Host NorCal RTNDA Conference in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Television and radio station tours, discussions with reporters who covered Hurricane Katrina, and the effect emerging technology has on broadcast journalism highlight the 24th annual NorCal RTNDA Conference and Awards in San Francisco, October 22, 2005.
Bay Area reporters who covered the aftermath of what may be the most destructive and expensive disaster in U.S. history will discuss how they overcame such challenges as no phones or electricity, sleeping in their cars, going without food and water, and encountering angry evacuees. It's a great learning opportunity for student journalists and working professionals alike.
"As we continue to cover the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita we are dramatically reminded that all news is local," says KGO-AM News Director Greg Tantum, President of NorCal RTNDA. "These storms presented many new and difficult media challenges. The 24th Annual NorCal RTNDA Conference is designed to help ensure we are ready to meet these challenges."
Other panels include a "Foot in the Door," where news directors and a talent coach talk about what it takes to get that first job or the next job, and "VJ Revolution" will discuss the trend toward video journalists working alone with a small digital camera and laptop editing system.
Former executive producer and assignment manager for CNBC Europe Harry Fuller will be the keynote luncheon speaker. Fuller has spent the four years since 9/11 covering European news and the rest of the world's reactions to America's role in world economics and politics. He will share impressions of how they see us, how we see or don't see them, how America looks now after four years away.
Students and working professionals have the opportunity for private one-on-one video and audio tape critiques with news managers. Pre-registration is required, and a limited number of spaces are available.
The conference will be held at the ABC Broadcast Center, home of KGO-TV (ABC 7) and KGO-AM, (News/Talk 810). Guided newsroom tours of nearby stations KPIX-TV (CBS 5), KCBS-AM (All News 740), and the San Francisco bureau of KNTV-TV/KSTS-TV (NBC 11/Telemundo 48) will be given.
The awards banquet will be held at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf and will be hosted by ABC 7 news anchor/KGO-AM host Pete Wilson.
Full-time students save 50% on registration costs. Pre-registration is requested by October 15. The full conference schedule and registration information are available at the NorCal RTNDA Website: http://www.norcalrtnda.com/index.html .
