NEW YORK, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Notable this week...
New Video Adds: Beginning Monday, September 12 David Gray "The One I Love"
"You Oughta Know" -- VH1 fills you in on artists on the rise. Get acquainted with these essential new artists.
Leela James -- This pint-sized dynamo with the huge voice and the thick cloud of hair is sick of modern hip-hop's skanky side and wants to get back to the gritty sounds made by heroes like Al Green, Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. Her debut "A Change is Gonna Come" should have any fan of old school R&B jumping for joy. She calls her music "back porch soul"; it bursts with deep grooves (courtesy of Kanye West and Wyclef Jean), and songs to make you sob and shout.
Aqualung -- London-based Matt Hales aka Aqualung started getting involved in music at a young age, composing a symphony at age 16. Hales landed one of his songs "Strange and Beautiful (I'll Put A Spell On You)," in a UK VW Beetle commercial which coincided with the release of his self-titled debut. People started clamoring to find THAT song and his album of dark and haunting songs became a hit. He renders his heartbreak with subtlety, preferring to let whispery vocals create a string of moody atmospheres. And believe it or not, he says he's never heard the Jethro Tull tune.
Anna Nalick -- This charming newcomer writes her feisty pop tunes with no formal training, just a love of music. From the age of thirteen, Anna Nalick was rewriting the lyrics to tunes by Green Day, Nirvana and Matchbox Twenty. She has since honed the craft of storytelling and this singer/songwriter showcases her own poignant music on her debut Wreck of the Day.
