Urban Television Network Corporation Announces an Alliance With the Oasis Foundation for 'Uplifting Urban America' Hurricane Relief Fund
FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Urban Television Network Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: URBT) and its Urban America Television Network, the first and only nationally broadcast television network to receive minority certification, announced today that it has launched an Alliance with the Oasis Foundation, a humanitarian relief organization, to "Uplift Urban America" and provide short and long term support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The network has agreed to coordinate a national telethon, a concert series, and other events with Oasis to raise donations for the storm victims along and near the gulf coast. UATV and Oasis are calling for individuals, celebrities and major corporations to form a cohesive effort to aid your fellow Americans.
"I am saddened by the complete devastation and incredible loss of life that we've seen thus far and my condolences go to those that have lost loved ones," said Jacob Miles, CEO of Urban America Television. "Our corporate mission is to 'Uplift the Urban Community' and we are committed to helping these communities get their lives back together. We will be coordinating with Oasis a celebrity based media effort for individuals and Fortune 500 companies to make donations to the relief effort."
"We are in the midst of a natural disaster that is historical in nature," said Gordon Brown, Executive Director of the Oasis Foundation. "We believe that UATV's air time commitment to the telethon and fund raising efforts will be the catalyst to encourage donations to the recovery efforts. We will be placing donated funds into critical organizations like the American Red Cross and for the purpose of retraining and transitioning a displaced work force in addition to supplying water, food and shelter in our direct efforts."
Oasis will begin taking donations immediately and will release details of the proposed telethon and national events in the next few weeks. UATV and Oasis expect the program to culminate in a live telethon and celebrity concert in November.
