Two-Thirds of U.S. Adults See Possible Ratification of New Iraqi Constitution As a Step Forward, According to Harris Poll

A new Harris Poll finds almost no change in the American public's generally gloomy opinions about Iraq, and President Bush's almost two-to-one negative rating for his handling of events there. If there is any good news for the White House it is that the numbers have not gotten worse since July. The most affordable market is Killeen, Texas, where a similar 2,200 square foot home costs $131,000.

The World Health Organization Warns of the Rising Threat of Heart Disease and Stroke as Overweight and Obesity Rapidly Increase

The World Health Organization estimates that over one billion people are overweight globally, and that if current trends continue, that number will increase to 1 point 5 billion by 2015. This warning comes in advance of World Heart Day on September 25th. Overweight and obesity are important risk factors for cardiovascular disease, which is the number one cause of death and accounts for over 17 million deaths every year. Once considered a problem only in wealthy countries, World Health Organization estimates show that overweight and obesity are now dramatically on the rise in low and middle-income countries. This is due to a number of factors, including a global shift in diet towards increased energy, fat, salt and sugar intake, and a trend towards decreased physical activity due to the sedentary nature of modern work and transportation, and increasing urbanisation.
