Salvation Army to receive food on Friday and Saturday in New Orleans

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood Records recording artist Hilary Duff has announced today that she will donate 2 million meals through USA Harvest to help the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The 2 million meals will be prepared and distributed at The Salvation Army canteens in New Orleans. In addition, Meijer Grocery Stores, MasTec Corporation, and The Mas Family Foundation have all made large donations to USA Harvest and Hilary's partnership to support in the recovery efforts.

Hilary's partnership will result in 2 million meals donated to those in need. In addition, Hilary is encouraging her fans to bring canned food to her concerts that will be collected by USA Harvest and distributed to food shelters across the Gulf Coast.

"I am so grateful to Stan Curtis and the amazing volunteers of USA Harvest for providing a timely and worthy way for me and our other partners to help the people in our Gulf Coast region. No donation is TOO small. This disaster proves heroes are everyday people," commented Hilary.

Meijer Grocery Stores have donated 6 convoy trucks to help in relief efforts. The trucks are leaving Louisville, Kentucky at 6 PM Eastern Time today bound for The Salvation Army canteens. The trucks are scheduled to arrive Friday and Saturday.

"The food provided by the partnership of Hilary Duff and USA Harvest is so much more than just nourishment for the people of the hurricane-stricken areas. It provides the people with hope. The Salvation Army is truly grateful to Hilary Duff and USA Harvest for confidently entrusting us with this gift, and we assure them that The Salvation Army will get the food where it is needed most," said Major Richard Watts, Salvation Army Commander of the Louisville area.

"Having experienced the destruction left by Hurricane Andrew and witnessing the rebuilding of South Florida through the generosity of others, we are ready to give back and assist thousands affected by Hurricane Katrina. MasTec and The Mas Family Foundation are proud to partner with Hilary Duff and USA Harvest to provide food, nourishment and above all hope during these trying times," said Jorge Mas, Chairman, MasTec, Inc. and Director, Mas Family Foundation.

"This partnership is another example of our continued relationship with Hilary Duff and evidence of her wonderful leadership and caring about others. Add to that the support of one of America's premier families, The Mas family of Miami, Florida and we have a team that will help and assist people for a long time," remarked Stan Curtis, founder of USA Harvest.

In its 18 years of operation, USA Harvest has collected and distributed more than 11 billion pounds of food to those in need around the world.
