Detroit-Windsor 'CarTunes On Parade Exhibit' Nears Finish Line

Detroit-Windsor 'CarTunes On Parade Exhibit' Nears Finish Line

DETROIT, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The "CarTunes on Parade" public art project on exhibit in Detroit and Windsor since June will soon come to an exciting finish. The 102 colorful, car-shaped sculptures with musical themes featured in the exhibit will be removed from the streets and public spaces of Detroit and Windsor on Friday, Sept. 30, 2005.

After the sculptures are removed, they will be taken to the Michigan State Fairgrounds and the Windsor Armouries to be cleaned and refurbished for the "CarTunes on Parade" auction. The auction will be held at The GM Wintergarden located at the General Motors Renaissance Center on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend and take advantage of this rare opportunity to bid on a sculpture featured in the historic, first-ever, international public art "on parade" exhibit. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the door, or by calling 313.275.5226 (Detroit) or 519.253.2300 ext. 6858 (Windsor).

"This exhibit has been an exciting project for both host cities," said Brad Van Dommelen, senior vice president of strategic business development at the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We've had people from across the country and beyond visiting to see these sculptures, and at the same time, discovering the new developments in downtown Detroit and Windsor."

Proceeds from the sale of each sculpture will be divided evenly with one- third benefiting the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit's YArts program or the Windsor Endowment for the Arts, one-third benefiting a local charity selected by the winning bidder and one-third benefiting the artist who created the piece.

CarTunes on Parade is produced by the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and the Windsor Endowment for the Arts and sponsored by DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors. Media support is provided by Comcast, Detroit Free Press, The Windsor Star and broadcasters WDIV Local 4, The A Channel, Oldies 104.3 WOMC and AM 800 CKLW.
