Regis Philbin Urges General Public to Take Steps Towards Healthy Lifestyle As Part of a National Health Initiative
NEW YORK, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- America On the Move (AOM) has announced that Wednesday, September 28th is National America On the Move Day of Action. A long-time believer in healthy eating and active living, Regis Philbin will serve as the 2005 Day of Action National Spokesperson for the Flagship red carpet event in Manhattan.
"I look forward to joining thousands of Americans in celebration of the day and hosting AOM's Day of Action Red Carpet event in New York City. I hope you'll join me and step out on the Red Carpet Route that will wind through midtown Manhattan on September 28th," said Regis.
In addition to the national event in New York City, AOM Affiliates across the country and thousands of employer groups, schools, communities and other organizations will be holding America On the Move Day of Action events. The AOM Day of Action is designed to introduce Americans to a healthier lifestyle through 2 small changes -- walking 2,000 more steps per day and decreasing caloric intake by 100 calories per day.
"In an effort to demonstrate how simple it is to make small lifestyle changes that have big benefits on overall health, we ask all Americans to make a pledge to go the extra mile to prevent weight gain," said James O. Hill, Ph.D., co-founder of America On the Move, obesity expert and Director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. "Getting involved is easy. If we can convince people to make this change for one day, they'll see how easy it is and hopefully, make a habit of it. Doing so could go a long way in addressing our nation's obesity epidemic."
AOM encourages individuals to get involved by taking the AOM Day of Action pledge online at www.americaonthemove.org or by calling 1-800-807-0077 now through September 28th. All pledge participants (18 and older) are eligible to win a spa/golf getaway at the Lodge at Rancho Mirage in Rancho Mirage, CA, two night resort stay at Rock Resorts, a $100 AMEX gift card, and a $50 Foot Locker card.
