ABC26 News Continues to Have New Orleans Covered

BATON ROUGE, La., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- WGNO ABC26 and WNOL New Orleans' WB38 are broadcasting to the New Orleans area and are ready for business. WGNO and WNOL can be seen in New Orleans through Cox cable, Charter cable, over-the-air and through satellite services.

Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area. During the storm ABC26 News crews worked non-stop to deliver news and information to all of the New Orleans area. The ABC26 News team has been working diligently since before Hurricane Katrina hit. In an unprecedented move for local broadcasters, WGNO ABC26 paired up with WBRZ News 2 Louisiana in Baton Rouge Saturday August 27, two days before Hurricane Katrina hit. ABC26 Chief Meteorologist Bruce Katz and key ABC26 News crew members assisted WBRZ with news and weather coverage. Starting Sunday August 28, the two stations paired up for twenty-four hour coverage. Also on Sunday, hours after New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin called a mandatory evacuation the ABC26 News team moved operations to Baton Rouge pairing up again with WBRZ. The twenty-four hour coverage continued for over ten days on the air in New Orleans as long as was possible and in Baton Rouge through WBRZ News 2 and their Cox cable news channel 18. Around-the-clock coverage continued for more than three weeks on cable channel 18. On Friday September 23, ABC26 News paired with WBRZ News 2 Louisiana once again for two days of 24 hour news coverage of Hurricane Rita.

In addition to the coverage over-the-air of both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, ABC26 News offered comprehensive information through streaming video of the hurricane coverage on the website http://www.abc26.com/ . Today WGNO ABC26 and WNOL New Orleans' continue to deliver informative newscasts and quality entertainment to the New Orleans area audience.
