"Television is more than just entertainment -- TV is remote control therapy that helps us cope with everything from a bad hair day to a bad break up," said "TVtherapy" co-author Beverly West. "With that in mind, we took a look at this year's Primetime Emmy nominees, and gave out our awards for the Best Primetime TVtherapy of 2005," said TVtherapy co-author Jason Bergund.

Here are this year's winners:

Best Work is Hell TV: The Apprentice: After a rough day around the water cooler, there's nothing like watching The Donald fire some other poor schmuck to take the edge off.

Best Diva TV: Desperate Housewives: The control queens of Wisteria Lane counsel us all to take charge of our own remote control, no matter what the neighbors think.

Best TV for the Soul: Six Feet Under: The Fisher Family is this year's best reminder that if you want to get to heaven, you've got to raise a little hell.

Best TV Justice: Cold Case Files: This Saturday Night Solution reassures us that in TV Land at least, every dog has his DNA.

Best Party TV: American Idol: Three judges, thousands of young hopefuls, and one hyper-coiffed host get our vote for the best reason to invite the aspiring idols in our crowd over to belt out a few ballads.

Special Mentions:

- Best Performance in a pair of snap-on-teeth: Cynthia Nixon in Warm Springs

- Best TV Antidepressant: Megan Mullally in Will and Grace

Beverly West (coauthor of the bestselling Cinematherapy series) and obsessed TV fan Jason Bergund are freelance writers living together on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with their four dogs, Elvis, Daisy, Buddha, and Bert, their cat, Hamlet, two turtles, and one very large plasma TV.
