Terry Avchen Featured on 'America's Best Lawyers'

Heads Environmental Practice at Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Forbes Radio today said that Terry Avchen, one of the founding members and chair of the environmental practice at Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro will be featured on its "America's Best Lawyers" in-flight audio program.

According to Forbes Radio, the best legal minds in the world have been chosen to appear on its programs to explore critical issues that shape our laws, policies and ultimately our daily lives. The program is carried on SkyRadio, which provides in-flight news on America's top airlines.

The interview with Mr. Avchen will air during November on American Airlines, reaching 3.4 million passengers, and during March and April 2006 on United Airlines, reaching more than 13.7 million passengers.

Others who will also be featured on "America's Best Lawyers" include Alan Dershowitz, Harvard professor of law and a nationally known criminal lawyer; David Boies, the former U. S. attorney who spearheaded the Microsoft anti-trust case; Lanny Davis, former special counsel to President Clinton; Philip Beck, counsel to President Bush during the Presidential Election litigation in 2000; and Morton Pierce, chair of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at the law firm of Dewey Ballantine in New York.

"I am extremely flattered by this recognition," said Mr. Avchen. "It would not have been possible, however, without the hard work of my colleagues and without the trust of my clients and the community, which is the greatest honor."

In his "America's Best Lawyers" interview, Mr. Avchen discusses current issues in environmental law: "We are at the dawn of a new era with respect to contaminated property. While these two words can strike fear in the minds of business people, contaminated properties can actually represent huge opportunities, and may represent one of the few undervalued classes of real estate assets in what some would consider a real estate 'bubble.' Indeed, environmental litigation can now, in many cases, be reduced to creative problem solving. The ability to predict the cost of a cleanup, coupled with the insurance products that are available and the sophistication of the cleanup experts, allow the business person to assess the risks and plug them into a cost benefit analysis. Many of these cases and properties represent exciting opportunities."

Mr. Avchen, who describes his practice as "dynamic, with an emphasis on complex matters," represents clients from across the country, including, MGM Mirage, Huffy Corporation, National Container Group, Vintage Petroleum, Shell Oil, various utilities and numerous real estate developers. His practice covers virtually every area of environmental law.

When it named him one of its Super Lawyers for 2004, Los Angeles Magazine noted: "Terry Avchen is the kind of lawyer who has a breakfast meeting in New York and a dinner meeting in Los Angeles ... (He) has distinguished himself as one of the foremost authorities on environmental law and the kind of expert you turn to when the stakes are high."

The magazine added: "When it comes to environmental law, even opposing counsel call Terry Avchen 'The Best.'
