May Avenue Advances in Colgate Country Showdown

Highway Country Hosts Local Competition

LAUGHLIN, Nev., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- May Avenue, a trio of three sisters from Yucaipa, California wowed the crowd and received a unanimous nod from the four judges to win over the other 10 finalists in the local Colgate Country Showdown competition hosted by Highway Country (KIXW/KIXF) in Laughlin, Nev., on Thursday, June 24.

Stefanie, Hilary and Lindsey Maiberger roused the crowd with their near perfect harmonies at the Lightning Strikes Dance Hall at Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino singing their original song "What Part of No," and their version of the Judd's' "Rockin With the Rhythm of the Rain."

With the victory, May Avenue will advance to the California state finals competition at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pamona, on September 24th; where they have a chance to win $1,000 cash and advancement to one of six regional competitions. The winner of each regional contest advances on to the showdown finals which will be televised for national syndication, and will compete for the grand prize of $100,000.

This is the seventh year Highway Country has hosted the local competition in Laughlin. This year's contestants were backed up by John Encinio and the Full House Band of Las Vegas.

The Colgate Country Showdown is designed to find the most promising country music talent in America and has previously featured such famous country artists as Lee Ann Rimes, Martina McBride, Toby Keith and Garth Brooks.

Contestants are judged on marketability in country music, stage presence/charisma, talent, vocal/instrument ability and originality. They also receive bonus points for performing original songs.
