Laughing Stock Productions Announce The Audio Book Release of Dogman

LONDON, August 10/PRNewswire/ --

- Attn. Book and Feature Editors

- A Musical Comedy Story for Children Under 10.

- By John Dowie, Read by Phill Jupitus, Songs by Neil Innes.

"With all the charm of Raymond Briggs' The Snowman, and the magic of the Little Prince, this tale of a half-canine, half-human hero is a future classic." - Sunday Express

A lonely boy who lives on the mainland. A childless couple who look after a Lighthouse. A rocketship-kennel that appears from nowhere. This is the story of Dogman!

DOGMAN first appeared as a comedy musical drama for children in 1993, in Brighton and a critically acclaimed UK tour soon followed. In September 2003 Dogman appeared in book form, illustrated by Delphine Thomas and published by BBC Worldwide (Volume 1 of 3). A new theatrical production, directed by Leisa Rea, played to great reviews at the Edinburgh Festival 2004.

Dogman's creator John Dowie has supported Ozzy Osbourne, was the resident poet on Tony Wilson's Factory Records and a pioneer on the alternative comedy scene, performing at one point in a double-act with Victoria Wood. However, he has devoted much of his time over the past ten years to writing for the younger generation. According to The Scotsman - "he has saved his best work for children."

The eagerly awaited CD release of Dogman is read by comedian Phill Jupitus ('Never Mind The Buzzcocks' BBC2 & BBC Radio 6 DJ). With an original score by Neil Innes (founder member of the legendarily nonsensical art school jazz band The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Neil went on to work with the Pythons and formed the Beatles parody The Rutles with Eric Idle). As well as the enchanting story, the CD also contains four additional songs.

What the press said about Dogman the show:

"That most critical of all audiences, the under-10's, were utterly enthralled" - Daily Mail

"A good children's show is one where the adults enjoy it as much as the children do. I (an adult supposedly) loved 'Dogman', as did all the children around me, judging by the amount of laughter " - Three Weeks

"Dogman is a true family show, packed with laughs, but it is also a beautiful piece of writing, in which the poet Dowie shines through" - The Scotsman
