Cobra Electronics Announces the First Fully Integrated Portable Navigation Device Featuring Real-Time Traffic

NAV ONE 4500 Available to Drivers This September

CHICAGO, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today signals the end of traffic entrapment for drivers commuting to work, taking a road trip or merely running errands. Cobra Electronics (NASDAQ:COBR), a leading manufacturer of navigation and communication products, today announces the NAV ONE 4500(TM), the first fully integrated portable navigation device featuring real-time traffic. The device will be available at leading retailers nationally in September and is now available for preorder on Amazon.com .

"The NAV ONE 4500 builds on Cobra's legacy of knowing drivers' dashboards," said Tony Mirabelli, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. "We've combined our four decades of experience with innovative technology to design a product that is a step forward in the mobile navigation category. The NAV ONE 4500 is the only truly plug-and-go, totally integrated, portable navigation product with traffic that is off-the-shelf, out-of-the-box and into-your-car."

Cobra is partnering with Clear Channel Radio and Tele Atlas to deliver one of the most technologically advanced applications in today's portable navigation market. The NAV ONE 4500's matchbook-sized traffic receiver provides users with up-to-the-minute information on traffic incidents, congested roads and construction zones in 48 major metropolitan areas across the country, covering approximately 70 percent of the U.S. population. The system's receiver obtains continuously updated traffic data through a FM radio feed via Tele Atlas and Clear Channel Radio's Total Traffic Network(R). As the unit receives the data, the NAV ONE 4500 provides the driver with rerouting options.

Eliminating the hassle and expense of professional installation or purchase of additional equipment associated with other aftermarket navigation products, the NAV ONE 4500 includes a traffic antenna that simply attaches to the NAV ONE 4500 mount and moves with the unit from car to car.

"In developing the NAV ONE 4500, Cobra conducted extensive consumer research to identify the features that are most important to drivers in a portable navigation device," said Mirabelli. "There was overwhelming support for a traffic solution in a device that is mobile and reliable. As a result, we're offering a product with features you won't find in any other portable navigation device."

The NAV ONE 4500 offers a number of superior features, including:

-- Industry-leading graphics: The NAV ONE 4500 features a five-inch touch screen, the largest in its class with automatic brightness control for day or night viewing. In daylight mode, the NAV ONE 4500 produces up to twice the brightness of competitive units for ease of viewing, even in sunlight. The unit includes 3D views, 14 levels of map zoom and exclusive terrain display, making it easy for the directionally challenged to find their way. The high quality and accuracy of Tele Atlas maps, combined with real-time traffic information from Clear Channel Radio, help drivers monitor ever-changing situations and find the fastest route to their destination. -- Personalized Route Options: The NAV ONE 4500 comes pre-loaded with North-American street-level detail maps from Tele Atlas that provide personalized route preferences and give the driver the option to avoid or prefer certain road segments and select route criteria. Additionally, Cobra's exclusive Compare Routes feature allows users to visually compare routes and select a preference. -- Destination searches made easy: The NAV ONE 4500 guides drivers with turn-by-turn directions and clear voice guidance to a programmed address or one of the 7.6 million interest points, more than any other in a portable device, and categorized in nine general categories, such as amusement, automotive, medical and travel, and further sorted into approximately 200 subcategories. The system's address book stores up to 1000 addresses in 20 user customizable folders. Once an address is entered, the driver can choose his own destination through the Compare Routes feature. Additionally, the driver can select multi-stop routing for any given trip. -- Signal reliability: Cobra's proprietary iASAP(TM) technology in the unit provides for faster satellite acquisition and uninterrupted navigation, even in obstructed areas such as dense foliage and urban canyons.

The NAV ONE 4500 is available at an MSRP of $1,099.95, which includes the traffic receiver. The unit includes a three-month free subscription to the traffic feature, followed by a subsequent annual service subscription fee of $59.95.
