102.9 WMGK Will Commemorate the Life of Warren Zevon Sunday, August 7th at 8 PM With a Special One-Hour Philadelphia Story

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK-FM (Philadelphia) will host a very special original program called "Warren Zevon: The Philadelphia Story" - Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 8 p.m. as the second anniversary of his untimely passing in September approaches. It will be a cross section of interviews, personal insights, live recordings and stories from people whose lives he touched and influenced while spending his time here in Philadelphia. The program will look back at the hell-raising antics of Warren as remembered by his close friends, from his early Philly shows at the Main Point, to his time spent living here with popular rock DJ Anita Gevinson, to the WMMR Morning Zoo shows in Atlantic City, to his battles with alcoholism and cancer. Warren Zevon died of inoperable lung cancer on September 7, 2003, shortly after the release of his last album "The Wind" and birth of his grandson.

Warren Zevon lived in Philadelphia with his girlfriend and former Philadelphia disc jockey, Anita Gevinson from 1983-84 in Rittenhouse Square. During that time he wrote much of the "Sentimental Hygiene" album, collaborated with REM and lost himself in the excesses of alcohol. "Warren Zevon: The Philadelphia Story" on Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 8 p.m. examines the Philadelphia slant on this satirical, intelligent and quirky songwriter who developed a local following and whose loss was mourned by many of the great names in the musical community including Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne and Emmylou Harris.

Warren Zevon, best known for his hit songs such as "Werewolves of London" and "Lawyers, Guns and Money," quickly developed a reputation for being one of rock music's hard-living cult rock icons. By the early 1980s, Zevon's notoriously wild ways had wrecked much of his personal life and his apparent excesses had taken their toll; one of his last stops in the downward spiral was Philadelphia. "Warren Zevon: The Philadelphia Story" on Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 8 p.m. explores those stories as told by local personalities including: Michael Tearson, longtime Philadelphia disc jockey; T Morgan, former WMMR program director; Bobbi Silver, local record label executive; Jim Sutcliffe, local music promoter; Kevin Gunn, former WMMR Morning Zoo Producer; John DeBella, former WMMR Morning Zoo Host and more...

"Warren Zevon: The Philadelphia Story" was written, edited and produced by WMGK Assistant Program Director / Music Director Nancy Palumbo and Production Director Tony Maddox.
