The Good, The Bad and The Unaware: Survey Shows Women Are Disappearing Into A Cholesterol Gap
Women don't know the difference between bad cholesterol and good cholesterol, according to a Harris Interactive survey of 27-hundred women, nearly a quarter of whom have cardiovascular disease, have suffered a heart attack or stroke, or have diabetes. Eighty-one percent of respondents could not name their H-D-L cholesterol or L-D-L cholesterol numbers. 84 percent could not name their triglyceride levels. However, nearly all respondents agreed it is important to know one's cholesterol numbers, and most claimed to be knowledgeable about cholesterol in general. More than half of the women surveyed did not know that H-D-L is the "good" cholesterol and that L-D-L is the "bad." Surprisingly, this lack of understanding extends to those who are taking action to improve their cholesterol levels. Eighty-two percent of the women who reported taking a prescription medicine to raise their H-D-L said they were taking a statin. While statins moderately raise H-D-L, their primary function is to lower L-D-L.

One-Third of U.S. Workers 'Play Hooky,' Finds Hudson Survey
Nearly one in three U-S workers admits to taking a sick day when they are not truly sick, according to a new Hudson survey. Half of those who play hooky do so simply because they need a break -- the most common reason cited -- and 22 percent do so to care for an ill family member. Workers aged 18-29 and those making under 20-thousand dollars a year were among the most likely to feign sickness at 43 percent and 37 percent, respectively. However, this practice is not all that commonplace, as a large majority of all workers who fake being sick only do so on rare occasions and just six percent do it more than three times a year. With three-quarters of U-S workers rating their firms as excellent or good in providing personal time, the infrequency is likely because many companies already have satisfactory systems in place.
