Lougee said, "Ray is ideally suited to lead Belo's Seattle/Tacoma-based properties. As a native of Puget Sound and a former member of the King Broadcasting family, Ray returns home with a wonderful mix of broadcasting, sales and technology experience. Our operations will benefit from Ray's years spent in upper management within NBC's television station group, including the positions of president and general manager of KNBC-TV in Los Angeles and executive vice president of sales for all of NBC's owned and operated television stations. His strengths as a leader and innovator in media are a great complement to the considerable talents and strengths of our Seattle management team."
Heacox is currently a principal at Deft Management where he provides consultant services to domestic and international clients in media, technology and sales, and also serves as the director of the Graduate Program in Television Management at Drexel University in Philadelphia. From 2000 to 2003, he served as the president and subsequently as chief executive officer of a start-up technology company, MediaOcean, Inc., which built business to business software to enhance the buying and selling of radio and television advertising. From 1991 to 2000, Heacox held various roles within NBC, Inc., including president and general manager of KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, executive vice president of sales for NBC Television Stations, vice president of sales for KNBC and local sales manager at KNBC. Prior to joining NBC, Heacox held various sales positions at radio and television stations in Portland, Los Angeles and New York, including two years as local sales manager at Belo's KGW-TV (NBC) in Portland (formerly owned by the King Broadcasting Company).
The move to Seattle/Tacoma with his wife, Cynthia, is a return home for Heacox, a graduate of Tacoma's Clover Park High School and Pacific Lutheran University. Heacox will be reunited with his father, brother and two sisters who live in the Seattle/Tacoma area.
