Trident's DPTV(TM) SVP Powers New Digital CRT TVs From Philips
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Technologies Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRID), a world-wide leader in developing advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Philips Consumer Electronics, one of the world's leading television OEMs, is using Trident's DPTV SVP to power new digital CRT TVs for China, Asia-Pacific, and North and South America. The new models are now shipping under the Philips brand.
"We are extremely pleased that Philips, a worldwide leader in advanced TV, has selected the DPTV-SVP for their new digital CRT TVs. Trident and Philips have worked very closely in the past year to create a product family that meets Philips' stringent video quality requirements while addressing the sensitive cost structure of the digital CRT market," said Dr. J.H. Chang, president of the Trident Technologies Inc. "Digital CRT TVs still represent a very attractive and growing market. Expanding our leadership position in digital CRTs by working with top-tier world-wide OEMs signifies our growing momentum in multiple segments of the advanced TV market."
Trident's DPTV(TM)SVP video processor features the award-winning technology including an advanced 3-D digital comb color decoder, pixel-perfect motion adaptive de-interlacing, vertical and horizontal sharpness enhancement, object-based intelligent digital noise reduction, dynamic Average Picture Level (APL) feedback to enhance video dynamic range, and the DETI engine to provide vivid colors. The DPTV(TM)SVP integrates an advanced fourth- generation 3-D/2-D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. Based on Trident's patented proprietary unified memory architecture, DPTV(TM)SVP's digital comb video decoder does not require an extra frame buffer for performing 3D comb filtering. With film-mode recovery, DPTV(TM)SVP correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources, and then dynamically restores the video source to the original film mode sequences for playback. The film-mode recovery of DPTV(TM)SVP eliminates the artifacts found in a typical interlaced signal to progressive conversion process. The motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing feature of the DPTV(TM)SVP refines the video display quality. The DPTV(TM)SVP enables a standard- definition signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV(TM)SVP supports non-linear scaling in panorama mode to ensure the most natural picture aspect ratio for the viewers. DPTV(TM)SVP's integrated 3-D digital comb video decoder has a built-in VBI slicer and decoder for closed caption and V-chip parental control that is EIA 608 compliant. Furthermore, DPTV(TM)SVP's full-screen bit-mapped on-screen display enables an exceptionally user-friendly and graphically- oriented TV menu control. Both interlaced and progressive-scan video output are supported.
