Steven Seagal Files Lawsuit Against Nu Image and Others

Steven Seagal Files Lawsuit Against Nu Image and Others

LOS ANGELES, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Steven Seagal and Steamroller Productions have filed a complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Avi Lerner's company Nu Image, EFF Independent, and other defendants for fraud, breach of contract and intentional interference with a contract in regards to the feature film 'Mercenary.' The complaint alleges that: "In an effort to harass, cheat and intimidate Seagal, Nu Image, which financed 'Mercenary,' has refused to pay Steven Seagal $835,000 he is owed, despite the fact that he traveled to South Africa and rendered all acting services required under his contract."

"The lawsuit filed against Steven Seagal by Nu Image and Kill Master Productions on June 6, 2005 is ridiculous and without merit," added Seagal's lawyer Marty Singer. "This was clearly an attempt to preempt my client's suit which Nu Image was aware we were preparing to file. Seagal's attorneys previously notified Nu Image more than a month ago about substantial claims of fraud they had against them.

"Evidence that Nu Image's lawsuit is frivolous is that two days after Nu Image filed its lawsuit, they offered to pay Mr. Seagal $650,000 of the remaining $830,000 he is owed for his performance in 'Mercenary.' Nothing was mentioned at that time about the Nu Image suit, which came as a complete surprise to my client when he learned of it on June 8."
