Local Comedians 'Fishing for Laughs' in New TV Show

Local Comedians 'Fishing for Laughs' in New TV Show

Duo hopes to hook audiences with their funny take on fishing

WILLOW SPRING, N.C., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Willow Spring, NC is a long way from Hollywood. But Carolina comedians Art Church and Jerry Carroll are hoping to find fame and fortune with their new fishing show, "Fishing for Laughs."

Fishing for Laughs is a unique outdoor show - a little blue collar comedy, a little reality TV, and a lot of fishing. Mostly it is a backdrop for hosts Art Church and Jerry Carroll to cut up and have fun.

Watching the show, it's clear that Church and Carroll are not professional fishermen or guides. They are two stand-up comedians who love fishing and the outdoors. Some of their funniest moments don't happen on stage, but happen while they are hanging out and fishing. "Our tagline is, 'If you learn anything on this show, it's purely by accident,'" Church says.

Fishing comes naturally for Carroll. Before pursuing his life's dream of entertaining people, Carroll spent 20 years working his family's farm. Fishing was a way of putting food on the table and having a little fun in the process. His fishing partner, Church (a licensed electrician), is more of a beginner. Church's struggles to catch fish provide many of the show's funniest moments.

Shows also feature the "Comedy Bit of the Week" - a video clip of stand-up comedy culled from the duo's live concerts. Often the bits relate to the show's content, reminiscent of the smash comedy series Seinfeld.

The duo hopes the show will help launch their line of fishing-related merchandise and gifts including novelty t-shirts, "Best of" DVDs and concert CDs. In addition, viewers can hire Jerry and Art to perform at their corporate event, festival, or fishing expo.

"We'll fish or perform comedy anywhere," says Church. "We're like politicians - we ain't cheap, but we can be had!"

And if it doesn't work out? "We'll just have $20,000 worth of home videos," jokes Carroll.
