Journalism Group, University of Missouri to Offer Business News Education

ST. LOUIS, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of American Business Editors and Writers and the Missouri School of Journalism will hold unique training sessions as part of the business journalism organization's fall workshops.

SABEW members may learn from six University of Missouri professors in a series of workshops on reporting, writing and editing skills. The fall workshops will be held Oct. 10-11 at the Sheraton Westport Hotel in St. Louis.

Two other series of programs -- sessions on business news topics and financial nuances -- will be held at the same time.

"This is a great opportunity for SABEW members to improve their craft through a wonderful expansion of the long relationship between SABEW and the university," said SABEW President Jonathan Lansner of The Orange County Register.

Attendees who participate in all the university-taught sessions will get a special certificate from the Missouri School of Journalism, which is considered one of the top journalism programs in the country.

"This is a rare chance to learn from the best," said Marty Steffens, who holds the SABEW Chair of Business Journalism at the Missouri School Of Journalism.

SABEW, with 3,400 members, is an independent, not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to encourage comprehensive reporting of economic and financial events and to upgrade the craft's skills and knowledge through educational efforts. SABEW's headquarters at Columbia, Mo., is hosted by the university.

SABEW plans to hold its 43rd annual conference next spring in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
