SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Catscratch, a new Nicktoon series that follows three rich felines as they drum up trouble in a world of humans, premieres on Nickelodeon with two back-to-back half-hour episodes, Saturday, July 9 from 8:00-9:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Where there's a will there's a way for the brotherly trio, who found themselves in the lap of luxury when their adoring owner died and left every penny to them. Now, newly-minted billionaires Mr. Blik (Wayne Knight, Seinfeld), Gordon (Rob Paulsen, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius) and Waffle (Kevin McDonald, (The Kids in the Hall) are free to do whatever their hearts desire, although these cat heirs rarely agree on what that is. Catscratch, from creator/executive producer Doug TenNapel, will air regularly on Nickelodeon, Fridays at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

The cats are a bit like The Three Stooges and The Beverly Hillbillies, and the results are chaotic and hilarious," says Nickelodeon's Marjorie Cohn, Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming, adding, "Whether the cats' intentions are selfish, honorable or absurd, they always land in a big heap of trouble."

Sibling rivals with contrasting personalities, the cats exasperate each other and argue, but they ultimately stick together in a world where most humans resent their wealth and the fact that, well, they're cats. Mr. Blik (Knight) is a blustery, bossy, insecure tough guy, who'll steamroll anyone who doesn't see things his way. Winning is everything to Blik, whether it's the title of Root Beer King or a race with the cats' bullying human neighbors, the Chumpy Chumps.

On the other paw, honorable Gordon (Paulsen), is honest and loyal to a fault, and a very messy eater. He also harbors a secret crush on the cats' 8- year-old neighbor and friend, sweet Human Kimberly (Liliana Mumy) and will do anything to impress her. Waffle (McDonald) is giddy, dumb and enthusiastic. He lives totally in the moment and loves his pet newts. Typically, Waffle has a hard time keeping up with his brothers' schemes, but occasionally he stuns everyone with a moment of brilliance. The cats' long-suffering butler, Hovis (Maurice LaMarche), grudgingly puts up with the fact that the former pets have become his masters.

In the first episode, "Bringing Down the Mouse," Waffle is tricked by the most devious rodent of all, Squeakus, while on a quest to catch his first mouse. Preying on Waffle's innocence, Squeakus convinces him that Mr. Blik and Gordon are actually mice. And in "To the Moon," Mr. Blik is determined to win a barbecue rib cook-off, despite the fact that he's a terrible cook. When Gordon tells the story of a man who made delicious ribs using rocks from the Moon, Blik transforms Gear into a rocket, and the three cats head into space.

Episode two, "Unicorn Club," finds Gordon aiming to impress his beloved Human Kimberly by telling her he will take her to see a real unicorn. Kimberly can't wait to see the mystical beast, and Gordon must convince Mr. Blik to dress up in costume with Waffle so that he doesn't have to admit he lied. In "Go Gomez! Go!" the cats challenge their obnoxious neighbors, the Chumpy Chumps, to a race. Whoever wins gets the other's house and everything in it!

Creator/executive producer TenNapel is the creator of Earthworm Jim, Project Geeker and the groundbreaking CD-Rom game Neverhood for Dreamworks, as well as a series of children's books, Strange Kid Chronicles, for Scholastic Books. He is the author and illustrator of several graphic novels, including Gear, Tommysauraus Rex and Earthboy Jacobus. Co-executive producer Peter Hastings is a three-time Emmy winner for his work as a writer/producer on Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Supervising producer Mike Girard has overseen the animation for shows including The Simpsons, Duckman and Nickelodeon's Rugrats Go Wild movie.
