STORY SUMMARY:

Audi of America, Inc. and AFI FEST have announced a three-week, cross-country competition involving three rising directors in the form of a 15-minute short film shot during a cross-country drive. After a star-studded bash at the world famous SKYBAR in LA, the competition, Step Ahead with Audi A3: Personal Journeys with AFI FEST Filmmakers, officially kicks off when contestants hit the road in Audi's newest vehicle -- the A3 -- in Los Angeles on May 4. LA-based filmmakers Shawn Ku, Jonathan Levine, and Kristina Robbins-Higgins will each make a short film uncovering emerging trends in American cities -- while driving the all-new Audi A3.

Teams will visit several US cities before reaching their final destination of New York. While traveling, the teams will each create a 15-minute film detailing their experiences with the versatile Audi A3 and documenting their vision of what's next ... be it people, places or things. Behind-the-scenes crews will travel with each filmmaker to document their journeys. These crews will also keep an online community actively involved with the filmmaking process through regular updates. Footage can be viewed on http://www.audiusa.com/A3.

A wrap party will be held on May 25 in New York at the end of their three-week adventure. Filmmakers will have three weeks to edit their films and submit them to judges, including actors James Cromwell (The Longest Yard), Joshua Jackson (A Life in the Theatre) and Emily Mortimer (The Pink Panther). The films will be posted online so the public can vote, and a winner will be announced in August. The winner will receive $10,000 and a 2006 Audi A3 and all three filmmakers will get to keep the equipment they use during editing.
