Judge Reinhold to Host Concert Celebrating Israel's Independence
"The Gathering of Exiles" to Honor Crew and Passengers of 'Exodus 1947', The Ship That Launched a Nation
LOS ANGELES, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Californian Christians and Jews will gather together with Israeli heroes and dignitaries Jews for a concert on May 16 at Bel Air's Stephen S. Wise Temple to celebrate the founding of the modern State of Israel 57 years ago. The event theme celebrates "Exodus 1947", the legendary ship carrying Holocaust survivors, whose blockade and attack by the British Navy off the coast of the Land of Israel focused worldwide attention on the plight of the Jews attempting to flee the camps of Germany and reach their biblical homeland.
Among those attending and being honored will be: "Exodus 1947's" Commander Yossi Harel, one of Israel's most revered historic figures, who heroically led the clandestine missions that smuggled 25,000 Holocaust survivors from Europe to fight for an independent Jewish State between 1945 and 1948. Also participating will be a number of the ship's passengers and crew, many of whom went one to become heroes in Israel's War of Independence; and one of the two now-57-year-old "babies" who were born on the ship during the historic voyage that inspired both a best-selling book -- Leon Uris' Exodus -- and the 1960 film classic that starred Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint.
Actor Judge Reinhold, whose credits include the hit movies "Beverly Hills Cop," "The Santa Clause" and "Ruthless People," will host the event. The concert will include performances by: the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, composed of some of Southern California's most talented high school musicians; Keshet Chaim Dance Ensemble, an American-Israeli contemporary dance troupe whose repertoire is inspired by Jewish life around the world and across history, award-winning gospel performers Andrae and Sandra Crouch and The New Christ Memorial Church Praise Ensemble, and popular Israeli singer David Dor.
Presented by The Israel-Christian Nexus, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and the public is invited. Tickets at $10 and parking is free. For more information, visit the Israel-Christian Nexus website at www.icnexus.org or call (310) 838-0755.
