NEW YORK, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirit -- The Seventh Fire, Peter Buffett's multimedia theatrical extravaganza, announces its 2005 tour with multiple week runs in Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C. and New York City.
Spirit -- The Seventh Fire celebrates and honors the rich culture of this Nation's first people through Native American music, dance, regalia and song. Employing universal motifs and themes, Spirit -- The Seventh Fire's story is told through live concert, contemporary and traditional music, epic film including National Geographic Imax footage, spectacular Native dance and traditional heart-pumping Native drum group performances. The Omaha World-Herald has proclaimed Spirit " ... poignant, sad, uplifting, thrilling and powerful."
Spirit -- The Seventh Fire tells the dramatic story of one man's journey to find a balance between the culture in which he exists, driven by the "American Dream," and his roots, rich in heritage, tradition and connected to the natural world. It is a journey of self-discovery that renews within him the mystery, beauty and spirit of his ancestors and brings him to a magical place where his past meets his present.
The Spirit -- The Seventh Fire 2005 tour opens in Philadelphia, PA on May 20th and runs through July 4th. Spirit travels in its own custom built, state of the art, climate controlled, 750-seat theater. This spectacular construct will be erected on Lemon Hill, across from Boathouse Row, in Philadelphia's lush Fairmount Park for the first run of the 2005 tour.
Ticket prices range from $25 to $60, with discounts available to children, students, seniors and groups. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 2nd. Advance tickets for Fan Club members will be made exclusively available at http://www.spiritfirecircle.com/fanclub to those who join prior to April 26th at 10AM.
In 1987, Peter Buffett began his inspirational work with Native American music. The beauty, depth and breadth of his compositions led him to the opportunity to score the "Fire Dance" scene for the Academy Award-winning film, "Dances with Wolves." He was then asked to score the 8-hour CBS series, "500 Nations," the first televised definitive history of the 500 North American Indian Nations, produced by Kevin Costner. During the project, he met Spirit co-composer Chief Hawk Pope and they began a friendship and musical journey.
After several high profile concerts, a tremendously successful stage production of Spirit aired as a PBS pledge break special, which the Wall Street Journal touted as, " ... a driving energy that exceeds even Riverdance." Producers urged Buffett to make Spirit bigger, more complex and send it on tour.
After four years, Spirit -- The Seventh Fire opened on The Mall in Washington D.C. in conjunction with the inauguration of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. In 2004, Spirit also enjoyed extremely successful runs in Milwaukee, Omaha and Louisville.
The Spirit -- The Seventh Fire team has made sure the experience is as much a ride as it is a theatrical experience by combining stunning visuals on three giant screens, stirring musical performances from a live band and exceptional showcases of talent by the Native American cast. Upon leaving the theater, audience members transcending age and cultural boundaries have expressed a meaningful connection not only to the Native American traditions, but to their personal ancestry as well. As the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel stated, "Rarely has a single feather carried so much weight ... Spirit is a phenomenal celebration of Native American culture."
Spirit also brings with it a communal lodge, which will serve as a forum for traditional art, literature and film as an attempt to build bridges between cultures and reach out to the community in a larger way.
Spirit is a Program of the not-for-profit Rudolf Steiner Foundation, based in New York and San Francisco, and has been designed as a way to educate, honor, showcase and create a mechanism to support Native America and all indigenous peoples.
