Hollywood's Pacific Title Brings Major Movies to Finish With Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond 10K

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR), the leader in open converged networks, is providing a next-generation network featuring enhanced availability, media convergence capabilities and bandwidth capacity to Pacific Title, a leading Hollywood production house. The new network speeds the processing, titles and digital effects for hit movies such as Spider-Man 2 and Million Dollar Baby.

Pacific Title & Art Studio, a part of the titling and post production film business for the past 86 years, offers a full selection of production services including high quality scanning, recording, Digital Intermediate color correction, visual effects, digital compositing and 3D. To further improve its service capabilities, Pacific Title recently upgraded its network with Extreme Networks' scalable and resilient BlackDiamond(R) 10K switch. This next generation core switch delivers dense 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections, dual management modules promoting network availability and a host of resiliency options.

Pacific Title's 10 Gigabit upgrade was generated by the continued adoption of digital workflow as well as commonly increased speed of server connections throughout its facilities. Today, Pacific Title's network is at the ready to handle prolific high-resolution images range from 2K to 6K, these images ranging in size from 13Mbyte to 150Mbyte respectively. Extreme Networks' Summit(R) 400-48 switch provides gigabit connectivity to every workstation and render node allowing artists and designers to never miss a beat.

"Today's movie production business is as competitive as ever," said Andy Tran, Chief Technology Officer for Pacific Title. "Pacific Title & Art Studio needed to establish a distinct edge with our technology and the process began with our network upgrade to Extreme Networks. Now, we have no limits in the flexibility to deliver data to our artists to create, enhance and composite, enabling us to deliver truly remarkable results."

The BlackDiamond 10K features an advanced software operating system, ExtremeWare(R) XOS, delivering increased availability with its modular architecture. The software allows for firmware upgrades while the switch remains in operation as well as automatic process restart capabilities, allowing the system and software to stay in service even when individual processes fail.

"The extraordinary digital transformation being driven by Pacific Title & Art Studio is the perfect complement to our next generation Ethernet platforms," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of worldwide marketing for Extreme Networks. "Delivering a core switch with the intelligence, availability and flexibility was a key difference in our relationship."
