Digital Information Network Launches Streaming Newscast Service for Local Broadcasters
DIN Desktop Video Enables Local Broadcasters to Capture Non-Traditional Revenue, Reach New Audiences
OKLAHOMA CITY, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Information Network (DIN), the desktop convergence application provider, today announced the availability of DIN Desktop Video, a service that allows local broadcasters to use DIN's unique desktop software to broadcast real-time newscasts over the Internet.
This service also enables broadcasters to reap valuable nontraditional revenue by selling branded advertising space on the Desktop Video module. Desktop Video brings on-air commercials to the desktop, allowing advertisers to now capture new local market segments and expand the reach of their Internet branding capabilities.
"At a time when broadcasters are faced with the dilution of audiences for information content due to increased competition from cable, satellite and other emerging sources, Desktop Video allows broadcasters and advertisers to reach new audiences that may not be regular viewers of the local station," said Jon Fowler, CEO of DIN. "We're excited about the revenue-generating potential that Desktop Video offers our media clients and their advertisers."
With minimal bandwidth requirements, Desktop Video allows broadcasters to stream segments of their local newscasts directly to computer users' desktops. Users can access the Desktop Video module from DIN's desktop application, which is being used by 100 stations nationwide to provide severe weather alerts, Amber alerts and other breaking news. The same video clips that play on a station's web site can be repurposed for delivery on the desktop. The only requirement for users is Windows(R) Media or Real Video(R) players.
Desktop Video is being offered as a service upgrade to existing DIN customers for a modest 10 percent of their annual licensing fee.
