Special Performance By Grammy-Nominated Duo, Ashford & Simpson; All Proceeds to Benefit Community Empowerment Programs

PHILADELPHIA, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Urban League of Philadelphia announces its 3rd Annual Song of Equality Gala paying tribute to some of America's most prominent songwriters who have used music as a vehicle to heal social ills, to promote unity and to economically empower individuals within the African-American community. Join us on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 5:30pm at the Marriott Hotel, 12th & Market Streets, as we honor this year's Harmony Award recipients: legendary songwriters Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. Grammy nominated songwriters and artists, Ashford & Simpson will perform.

The Harmony Award will acknowledge the efforts of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff who play a vital role in narrowing the equality divide and who exemplify peace, harmony and justice. With many awards to their credit, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff are inductees of the National Academy of Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Grammy's Life Time Achievement Hall of Fame. They have written, produced, recorded and published more than 3,000 songs performed by numerous artists including The Jackson Five, The Intruders, Billy Paul, Nancy Wilson, Lou Rawls, O'Jays, The Delfonics, and Harold Melvin & Bluenotes. Gamble and Huff's musical success is recognized with more than 170 gold and platinum songs and albums. In 1993, Kenneth Gamble founded Universal Community Homes, which has become one of the City of Philadelphia's largest community revitalization efforts in its history. Universal Community Homes has placed over 550 families in renovated homes, making it one of the largest African- American holders of real estate in Southwest Central Philadelphia.

Having penned musical hits for Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Marvin Gaye, the dynamic duo Ashford & Simpson later took center stage as artists having recorded such hits as "Send It," "Is It Still Good to Ya," and "Solid."
