A recent survey from BIGResearch, fielded in January 2005, found that more than 60 percent of broadband users watch television and surf the Internet simultaneously and Industry analysts believe that tools that streamline the searching and indexing of premium content such as television listings will become critical to consumers.
Traditional grid-based electronic program guides do little to help consumers navigate the 200-plus channels of available today. Because sifting through the hundreds of options to find a desired program is extremely time- consuming, average viewers generally do not venture outside of their eight to 12 channel comfort zone.
