British Musical Group Receives California Acclamation
Pasadena First Concert Stop on Hendon Band's West Coast Tour
LOS ANGELES, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh from sold out performances in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Hendon Band of The Salvation Army kicks off its first tour of the US west coast since 1988 on March 18-20.
On KTLA-5 TV's, Morning Show (Friday, March 18, 6:55 AM), Gayle Anderson will feature the band taking the stage of the former Hawaiian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The Hawaiian, once Howard Hughes' favorite location for movie premieres, is now the home of The Salvation Army's Hollywood Temple.
"Unless you have traveled to England to hear that country's champion contest bands," said Bill Flinn of the Pasadena Salvation Army, "You have not had the opportunity to hear a musical group of this caliber. Hendon is a great band of The Salvation Army, but its musicality compares favorably to the finest British brass bands."
Friday's events continue as the Hendon Band moves to Los Angeles City Hall, performing before the LA City council. In the Council Chambers, City Council President Alex Padilla will greet the band by issuing a proclamation honoring its visit.
A noontime appointment with Rotary Club V of Los Angeles is next at the Omni International Hotel. Rotary V is relocating its Friday meeting to accommodate the overflow crowds wanting to hear these excellent musicians.
On Saturday March 19, 7:30 PM, the Pasadena Salvation Army hosts the band's first full-concert performance. Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard will be present to award Hendon the key to the City of Pasadena.
Flinn says that quick action is needed for those who wish to attend the HENDON BAND: FESTIVAL OF MUSIC, "Tickets are available in limited quantities for $8.00. Call The Salvation Army in Pasadena at (626) 773-4400 to make reservations."
