Late Late Show Slot and Triumphant Return to Los Angeles Venue Temple Bar Slated for April
PHOENIX, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The escalating success of rising eclectic soul/jazz vocal sensation Billy Miles has made her a recurrent favorite at AAA and Hot AC radio, and a blazing hot presence at NPR and non-commercial outlets nationwide. The stellar Miles flat out dominates NPR formats everywhere with the tracks "Your Love's A Lie" and "A Friend Like You" following up acclaim for the single "Sunshine," all from her self-titled Aezra Records debut album. She was just featured in concert with Dr. John on the nationally syndicated public radio program E-Town, and has been nationally televised on CBS The Early Show's Second Cup Cafe and Soul Train. In person, crowds at L.A.'s hot Temple Bar and NYC's venerable Joe's Pub have thrilled to her equal parts elegant and cutting-edge stage presence.
On April 13, Billy steps onto a broader stage as a featured performer along with Chris Botti and Lili Haydn at the inaugural "Diamonds For Humanity" Gala at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. A global initiative founded to create and support projects that affirm human dignity, Diamonds For Humanity is developing crucial environmental and social programs in post-conflict communities in Africa. The April 13th event sponsored by Gemesis Cultured Diamonds and Harper's Bazaar will benefit their work with The International League For Human Rights and The Africa-America Institute.
Following her Lincoln Center debut, Billy powers through the rest of the month with a run of performance events including Billboard Cafe on April 15, and Acoustic Cafe at the Detroit Motor City Music Conference on April 21. April 25 marks Billy's inaugural spotlight on CBS-TV's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and the young star closes out the month with a return to Los Angeles' happening Temple Bar in what is certain to be her third consecutive SRO gig there.
Billy's highly praised 13-song debut collection Billy Miles is as stunning a combination of the earthy and the exotic as the artist herself. Miles grew up absorbing the divergent musical tastes of her African-American father and Eurasian mother, and the cultural contrast resounds dramatically in Billy's sensual sound. Fusing soul, jazz, R&B, pop, rock, trip-hop and hip-hop, Billy's music is also layered with echoes of a genre/generation-spanning sisterhood of stars who have inspired her, including Nancy Wilson, Sade, Stevie Nicks, Esthero and Norah Jones.
Her music is fast drawing more and more comparisons to that caliber of artists, and accolades purely on its own merits. In the leading music industry trade magazine Radio & Records, John Schoenberger recently named Miles, "a neo-soul-inspired artist who possesses the chops and drive to go all the way." The article concluded, "I know that if you give Billy Miles a real listen, you'll get the same tingling in your spine I did when I heard her album for the first time."
