Miami Radio Stations Bar Ad Critical of Continental Group from Airwaves MIAMI, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Jefferson Pilot refused to allow a 60 second radio ad critical of the Continental Group to run on two of their stations -- WMXJ and WLYF. The ad focuses on controversial business practices of the Continental Group, a Canadian owned property management firm operating in Miami. The ad is running on WIOD-AM and WKIS-FM. WQAM-AM, WKAT-AM have also agreed to air the ad. The Service Employees International Union Local 11 created the ad to draw public attention to problems consumers and workers are having with Continental: * The Continental Group has sued condo residents at six different condominiums who have spoken out against Continental in recent years. * The Continental Group may boost revenues by steering contracts from Continental-managed properties to its subsidiaries and affiliates. * Charges alleging that Continental and other property management firms have engaged in a campaign to intimidate workers who support the union have been filed with the NLRB, including charges that the Continental Group illegally interrogated, spied on, harassed, threatened and fired workers who support the union. Workers at buildings managed by Continental are in the process of uniting to form a union. Here in Miami, 72 percent of condominium workers earn less than $20,000 a year, placing most of their families at or below the poverty level -- in an area with one of the highest poverty rates in the nation.
