Members of the media are invited to a news conference and media preview of BODY WORLDS 2 on January 28, at 8:30 a.m. Due to the tremendous popularity of BODY WORLDS: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, which welcomed 660,019 visitors, Dr. Gunther von Hagens, creator of BODY WORLDS and inventor of the plastination technique, now launches BODY WORLDS 2 in the Americas. Revealing significant insights about human anatomy, physiology and health not available in the previous exhibit BODY WORLDS 2 reveals new insights of the body in mesmerizing detail. BODY WORLDS 2 displays a very dynamic second generation of plastinates, most of them in athletic poses that demonstrate the play of muscles and organs in action. With a deeper focus on medical education, this exhibition offers an advanced lesson in human anatomy. Plastinates act as teaching tools used for the professional education of students. Highlights include: * "Death Spiral: Elegance on Ice," an ice skating couple demonstrating each individual's muscular system and juxtaposing the female and male form * "Orthopedic Man," showing a variety of surgically implanted orthopedic devices * "Camel and Baby Camel" acting as representatives of comparative anatomy, showing their complex digestive system * "Suicide by Fat -- Obesity Revealed" shows fat tissue and its ability to shorten life by damaging vital organs like the heart. More than 200 real human body specimens, 25 whole body plastinates healthy and unhealthy organs, body parts and slices make up this 20,000 sq. ft. exhibit.
